4206 To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}24/KW.2.1.35. Wet Brake Judders - 3-B-IV on Dyno. (1) Axle control moved out to ends of axle does not prevent judders. (2) O.S. only will judder running either backwards or forwards. (3) Load applied on 3' extension of last external lever produces judders in either direction. (4) Load applied to last external lever by turnbuckle fixed to carrier plate produces judders. (5) Non wrapping shoe only will not judder. (6) Wrapping shoe only (other screwed back) has very occasionally juddered. (7) Axle control removed lowers frequency of judder and is accompanied by large spring movements. (8) Altering toggles so as to push and not pull prevented judders for a short time, presumably due to altered bedding, but after a short mileage had no advantage. (9) Damping of external lever by wooden wedge sufficient to distort parts had no effect. Previous test on cars have shown that no advantage is gained by (a) Chamfering leading edge of wrapping shoe. (b) Removing GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} wrapping shoe. (c) Chamfering trailing edge of wrapping shoe. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} | ||
