RE: TRANSFER OF SINGLE CYLINDER BENTLEY UNIT TO No.2.A. BED.

Further to previous memos on this subject, we are now sending sketches of the petrol and cooling systems required, and a suggested layout for the bed (Figs. I. II. and III. respectively)

Petrol System (Fig.I)

Everything for this is existing, with the exception of a flowmeter and a two-way cock.

Water System.(Fig.II.)

Two valves A.{Mr Adams} & B. will be required, and it would be much more convenient if the water and steam valves were placed immediately over the instrument board as in No.30. bed. Otherwise everything is existing.

General Layout (Fig.III)

A tentative scheme is shewn in the sketch, the DPX.L. water brake being inserted as running has shewn that the electric Laurence Scott dynamometer is not sufficiently sensitive to be accurate with the small powers developed by the unit.

A Water brake is existing, as also, it is understood, nearly all the necessary coupling parts for the shaft between the engine and the brake, and the claw coupling between brake and motor, and it is therefore considered that the modification can be made at a relatively low cost.
