Contd. 2. We have examined the general condition of the engine since the run, and find all parts in good condition. The most noticeable wear is the propeller hub is slack on the serrations of the shaft. Camshaft Drive The condition of all the parts on this drive are excellent the ball races have got no worse since we examined them after completing the 50 hours run. The ball races in the standard camshaft drive, (which is fitted with thrust races) are no better than those on the new drive. We notice we have adopted a new practice as regards the retaining nut for the bottom ball bearing, the drawing shows two loose packing washers which must be the right thickness for the nut to bed on each when it is tight. We consider the instructions engraved on the steel tube casing would be better if they were on a plate, when the engines are painted, it will fill up the lettering or if that part is left unpainted it will rust. The rivets have been altered from steel to aluminium. Epicyclic Gear X. 2851 We have not damaged the propeller shaft after 90 hours 6 cylinder running on the sun wheel carrier which broke, was correct to drawing. The teeth on this gear were all the latest stub type. Pistons cast at different temperatures. X. 2863 We cannot tell from examination any difference in these pistons. Each piston has been run for nearly half the test with no firing in the cylinder, with the present piston metal | ||
