Difficulty in dismantling the L.S. jet on the 20HP carburettor and proposing a design improvement.

X5080/X4118 Arising out of Mr. Minchin's letters concerning his 20HP. car (with which he is exceedingly pleased) we find that what worried him was dismantling the L.S. jet on the carburetter. Our practice is of course only to dismantle this as a last extremity, as we usually find it quite sufficient to lift the L.S. jet as far as it will go, and race the engine a littleto clear out any dirt. We are bound to agree however that it should be an easy matter to dismantle and clean any functional part of the carburetter, and the removal and replacement of the somewhat smaller split pins on the jet control is apt to be somewhat trying, especially under adverse conditions. It is difficult however to find a substitute for this reliable form of lock which is not bulky or elaborate, but it occurs to us that we might use forked couplings and retain the pins by means of small spring fingers such as are used on magneto contact breakers. If you think this point worth attention we could include it in our list of improvements on the 20HP. chassis, and also apply it to SS.{S. Smith} when convenient. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
