Bailey - Chief Engineer} +305 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}24/KW.6.9.35. SpectreCodename for Phantom III Carburetters. Attached is a report from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell} on the SpectreCodename for Phantom III Carburetters. It will be remembered that we were responsible for asking for reverse throttle carburettors on the strength of some tests we made on the 20/25. Since that date we have worked continuously on the existing 20/25 carburetter and are in a position to say that with the excellent standard of accuracy at present being maintained in its manufacture in the Works, we can get very satisfactory results both with regard to consumption and absence of flat spots. The main fault which has shown up on the reverse throttle carburetter is that the slow running adjustment is difficult. We are carrying on with our experiments on reverse throttle carburettors, but have decided that for the first production SpectreCodename for Phantom III cars the most reliable combination is the new float chamber with the existing 20/25 type of throttle arrangement. A further experiment has indicated that the existing throttle bore is too small, and we should like an increased size to be incorporated in the final carburetter arrangement.
