RG.{Mr Rowledge} ) FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ) PY. ) C. to SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} ORIGINAL R1/W6.11.31. 83866 AERO ENGINE CYLINDERS. Since we naturally think cylinder construction could be more foolproof - i.e. requiring less skill and care - and that our alternative scheme results in too heavy a construction, I think we ought to try over a design having jackets integral with the crankchamber, and liner construction with detachable head, as we have shown in the private venture engine, and J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} 3. It makes such a remarkably easily repairable engine if good jacket castings can be relied upon. The cylinders would be very free from distortion. It did much towards making me choose an International Tractor for agricultural work. It is the same as RG{Mr Rowledge}'s Napier car engine and most early gas engine work. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
