Phantom III - Rear Brakes.

We send herewith N.Sch.4959 showing increased clearance for the link G.82037 which connects the foot brake rope to the idler lever on the back axle.

The left hand view shows how existing pieces are dealt with milling the slot an extra .200 deep.

We understand that an increase of .200 of the pin centre distance is also suggested, and that it is proposed to use link G.84535. This gives an increase of .300 and as in the case of the link for the rope we do not wish to make the length of the link any more than is necessary, we should prefer that a new forging be made to give only .200" increase which as we show on our drawing will be suitable for both the connecting link and the rope.

At the suggestion of the Experimental Department we are deleting the bronze bush from the eye which receives the rope fork. The hole, therefore, becomes .4375 and must be hardened. This will have to pass the 10,000 miles test before being standardised of course.

N.Sch.4959 herewith.
