X4612P X EFC1/T. 18th June, 1926. Messrs. Peto & Radford, 50, Grosvenor Gardens, London, S.W.1. X3839 For the attention of Mr. G.R.N. Minchin Dear Sirs, We thank you for your letter of the 17th inst. accurate We note your remarks regarding the charging P.D.'s. We are making some experiments by a fairly null method of observing the actual charging E.M.F's. and this in addition to observing charging P.D's. and you may be interested in the results of these tests. For instance, the true E.M.F. of the battery charging at a high rate is considerably more than the P.D. when charging at a low rate, and secondly, the true ohmic resistance of a battery on charge, say at 12 amperes, is only after all about twice as much as it is on high rate discharge. With reference to your suggestion about the cells, we can work it in more symmetrically with the sandwich batteries which we are making up if you provide us with four cells, two of the new manufacture as suggested, and two of the present manufacture - instead of one as suggested, and we have no doubt you would be prepared to supply this extra cell for this purpose on your own initiative. We shall be able to accommodate all four cells in the three sandwich batteries which we are making up for the purpose of comparing threaded-rubber separation and other separation. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
