Quarterly Complaints. Fabric Coupling Tests.

With reference to memo Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/RM{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}2/AD.19.12.30., we note that the rivetted coupling of the spigotted spider is the most satisfactory coupling so far developed.

The Works havebeen working on this type of coupling for some considerable time now, and we have supplied for production and outside requirements over 200.

To ensure that we make these couplings as good as we possibly can, we have a special drilling jig, reaming jig and rivetting jig. In addition we find that it is necessary to grade the discs as they come in from the manufacturers in batches of certain thicknesses. The variation in thickness makes this batching necessary.

We then alter our rivetting jig slightly for each separate batch. By this means we ensure consistent compression of the fabric, and in addition each disc is individually inspected before fitting to the chassis.
