CAR RADIO INTERFERENCE CAUSED BY DYNAMO VOLTAGE REGULATOR ON R.R. AND BENTLEY CHASSIS.

Interference caused by the action of the vibrator voltage regulator has caused considerable annoyance to owners of our cars fitted with radio sets and both ourselves and the radio set manufacturers have been carrying out investigations in order to discover the best way of suppressing the interference.

We have found that the best method of suppression is obtained by connecting a 1.0 microfarad paper wound condenser between the main positive terminal of the dynamo and the frame, and by using metal braided cable for the main dynamo positive and field wires to the regulator and distribution board respectively, the braiding being earthed at each end of the wire and at intervals along its length.

We therefore recommend that suitable cables and clips be detailed for use on radio equipped cars where regulator interference is experienced.
