W/S. (c) /X8390 BY23/G.27.10.27. c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} PHANTOM CHASSIS - PRESSED STEEL WING STAYS AND LAMP BRACKETS. ------------------------------------------------------------- Further to BY3/G.18.10.27. we have just received from Mr. Royce his latest scheme in connection with dipping head lamps using the large new type Lucas lamps. In this scheme the lamp brackets are designed to fit in the sockets at present provided in the front cross member. Since Messrs. Barkers dipping scheme also makes use of these sockets it would appear that we ought to continue to provide them in the front cross member as at present, even when we introduce the pressed steel front wing stays. In view of the above we propose to order the pressed steel wing stays for F.2 series, and we shall continue to fit the sockets in the front cross member, but whether we order brackets for carrying the present standard Lucas headlamps off the wing stays depends upon whether the larger Lucas headlamps will be standardised by Sales. If we fit RR. front wing stays the brackets for carrying the lamps off the wing stays will not be required if the larger Lucas lamps are used, whilst on the other hand if the present lamps are fitted we should have to fit plugs in the sockets in the front cross members, which could be done by using the stump irons which we now supply and which would be cut off to suit. Will Sales please let us know as quickly as possible if they agree to the R.R. Wing Stays being ordered for F.2 series, if so we will arrange for a sample set to be sent to Barkers and Hoopers as soon as possible. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} BM | ||
