We understand from the Expl. Dept. that it is possible to improve the rear seat ride of the 25/30 H.P. by fitting ultr low rating front springs, provided a front anti-roll rod is fitted. On N.Sch.4803 herewith we show a front anti-roll rod designed to go on the existing chassis, for use with springs having a rubber bump of 2/450 and a rebound of 5½" to the free position of the spring. We understand that the Expl. dept. have particulars of these springs which they propose to use. On the boss of the roll rod lever we provide a stop which contacts with the face of the drop forged bracket when the spring may have gone so far beyond the free position as to cause toggling. The sizes of Silent Bloc bushes which we have used are those which have been fitted to the experimental scheme, and care should be taken to see that they are assembled in such a position that the bush is torsionally unloaded in the normal position of the mechanism. The attachment of the frame is provided by means of a reamed bolt in place of the existing rivet in the tail of the dumb iron, and by one reamed vertical bolt through the lower flange of the frame. In order to provide clearance between the lever arm and the wing stay, the base of the wing stay is to be chamfered off as drawn. Very slight modifications are entailed to the dumb iron cover and the apron. The attachment to the axle is by means of a boss provided on the axle control triangle. The virtue of using this point of attachment for the lower end of the link is that the link itself always remains vertical no matter what may be the angularity of the axle, so preventing any axial twist from occurring on the Silent Bloc bushes. | ||
