HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} [Handwritten] X7770 R3/M16.12.29. Copy to SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Copy to WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Copy to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} SUGGESTED NEW PHANTOMCodename for PHANTOM I 2. TRIALS CAR. Unless this car has a number of mechanical features in addition to that embodying the appearance it would not be necessary to damage the body by running it 10,000 miles in France, and therefore the production of such a car would merely mean something to sell eventually that was not soiled. We think however that we shall be able to muster enough parts to justify the cost of a trial in France. It would then consist of :- (1) The subframe. (2) Lower steering. (3) Wider dash. (4) Some modified construction of the radiator, and also, (5) To permit of plating. (6) Thermostat control. (7) Probably a new carburetter. (8) Invar pistons. (9) Perhaps tubular connecting rods. (10) Centrifugal damper. (11) One of the novel gearboxes. Or it could possibly be a L.H. chassis, slightly wider rear track, without altering the splasher width or manoeuvrability, wider rear brakes, and probably some electrical modifications. R | ||
