X6009 EFC4/AD. 11th February, 1930. The Macintosh Cable Co.Ltd. Sinfin Lane, Derby. Dear Sirs, Lacquered cambric covered H.T. cable. With reference to the cellulose lacquered cambric covered maconite H.T. cable of which you recently supplied us with sample quantity, you will be interested to know that we have made up a set of chassis H.T. wires with this and fitted these to one of our experimental cars for prolonged test. There was however, a little difficulty on account of the diameter being slightly in excess of the 7 mm. which is the maximum we can allow to suit our standard tubes, also the surface finish was rather rougher than anticipated. In this connection we enclose comparative samples, which please return, one of the wire in question and another of another make which you will see has a much smoother surface finish than your cable and appears to be equally good in respect of its resistance to mechanical, physical and chemical damage. We shall be interested to hear your remarks concerning the above points. We may mention that the only other snag we have so far run up against in this cable is that it does not provide the same degree of flexibility in permitting the easy removal and replacement of our battery ignition distributor head. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
