re Combustion Chamber Characteristics.

We should be glad if you could obtain some indicator cards for the SpectreCodename for Phantom III engine, more particularly that portion of the curve showing the rate of pressure rise with combustion.

The use of the indicator diagram in engine development has been greatly retarded by lack of provision in the cylinder head design of a suitable connection to work the pressure recording apparatus of the indicator.

In the case of the SpectreCodename for Phantom III it would be necessary to run on one ignition plug, and use the other sparking plug hole for the indicator. This, however, does not quite assimilate running conditions since the combustion of the charge would only start from one point, but would nevertheless be usefully informative.

As all our later single cylinder engines are fitted with numerous plug holes to the cylinder heads we might utilise one of these of similar type to the SpectreCodename for Phantom III engine, running on double ignition, to give us the required data.
