LONDON.W.10.

For the attention of Mr Donald Sessions.

Dear Sirs,

re D.W.S. Hand Hydraulic Jacks - Phantom III.

Thank you for your letter of the 28thb inst. referring to oil leaks from the top caps of the hydraulic rams.
We agree with you that the leaks occur after the rams have been fully extended and are blown up in excess of the weight of the car.

We think that a release valve should be incorporated in the hand pump, and should be glad if you will go ahead and let us have your drawings as quickly as possible. We have considered the pressures in the system and we think the release valve should operate at a pressure 50% in excess of that required to lift the car, i.e. at 2700 lbs per square inch, and that all the rams should be capable of withstanding a pressure 100% in excess of the maximum pressure required to lift the car, i.e. 3,600 lbs/ square inch.
We should be glad, therefore, if you would arrange to test all rams at 3,600 lbs/square inch before delivery. In connection with the leaks from the top cap, we should be glad if you could let us have a sectioned ram for examination including a sectioned cap.
