To Na.{Mr Nadin} from R.{Sir Henry Royce} Copy for J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} " " Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} With reference to the tests of nickel steel side members, it would be as well I think to have a larger number of tests made, selecting pieces from a greater number of frames and also a greater number of pieces. There seems little doubt but what the temperature of 800° and 450° cent. shows that the 450° is not sufficiently high to avoid brittleness, and that the simple normalising would be a very inexpensive and satisfactory way of heat treating these parts, with which I should be quite satisfied. If, however, we find it convenient in future to adopt the treatment of 800° 550°, this will no doubt be the very best. R.{Sir Henry Royce} Izod's impact tester seems to show its use on these pieces. I think we ought to have such a simple and inexpensive apparatus ourselves at once. | ||
