Bailey - Chief Engineer} Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} E.10/HP.19.6.36. Differential Housing Failures - P.III. Referring to your memo Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}21/KW.13.6.36, we are pleased to find that the differential housing stood up better than anticipated to further tests. The position on production is that the new differential housing has gone ahead, and 50 sets are now finished. This housing is undoubtedly much stronger than the old one, and the lubrication holes are not much altered. As a result of your report we should be safe in using the original design in nickel steel, but we should not be justified in upsetting production because of the risk in introducing the changes which have been made in the stronger housing, and we are, therefore, letting things stand as they are. The old pinions and washers will of course be used until the new type with the larger thrust faces and improved lubrication have been sufficiently tested. ✓E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
