Phantom II Exhaust Silencers.
--------------------

We have now tested out on 20-EX car a Phantom II Exhaust Silencer built up to Lec.3759.

This scheme is intended to reduce the amount of "crackling" that takes place when the silencer is cooling down, and is such that the outer edges of the baffles are rolled instead of being flat, and the centre exhaust pipe is cut through in two places, each section of pipe being held in position by one baffle being rivetted to the outer shell.

This allows for a freer movement of the centre pipe when expanding and contracting, and the rolled edge of the baffles prevents any "digging in" to the outer shell.

Compared with a standard exhaust system on 20-EX, it is an improvement, the "crackles" being of a less frequency than the standard system, but it is not what one could call good, as there are still very noticeable crackles when cooling down.
