this corresponds to the "attack of the mica insulation by the lead" referred to in your letter). This discolouration arises from the formation of deposits of bromine compounds of lead and also iron oxide. Such deposits, provided the heat resisting characteristics of the plug are suited to the engine, do not appear to be of a highly conducting nature.

As regards phosphor bronze braided ignition cable, we have an engine fitted with this type of cable undergoing flight tests but as only 20 hours flying has so far been completed, it is too early to express an opinion as to its merits. We are, however, interested to hear of the favourable results which you have obtained under test-bed conditions.
