To DA. {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} from Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /Rm. {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} X235 Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 1/LG13.7.26. HYDRAULIC SHOCK DAMPERS. X235 X8520 We observe that on N.sch.2222, a buffer [strikethrough] is shewn which reduces the clearance by .875". We calculate that there is no reason for having a buffer of this size and that it is merely shewn to ensure that there is sufficient rubber to be cut away when experimental testing. Actually we propose to run the buffer giving 2.1" axle clearance as at present which we consider to be the absolute minimum, as the axle already hits the buffers very frequently on French roads.
