BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} FROM E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} X5010 E1/M27.8.31. C. to SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 20/25 HP. BALANCE WEIGHTS. Further to our memo. E1/M22831., we send herewith as promised LeC.2940. showing the result of our assessment of the balance weights shewn on LeC.2937., together with the corrected value for the half weights. We also hereby confirm that R, wishes to hold up the alteration to the crankshaft dies until it is decided by test which scheme is to be adopted. With regard to 20/25. crankshaft forgings which are in stock but not machined it is probable that we shall fit balance weights to these. For this purpose the Chrysler arrangement is unsuitable owing to the difficulty of attaching the half weights without weakening the crank webs. We should therefore rely on R's 8 weight scheme, and it will be necessary to prepare a design taking full advantage of the machining allowance on the rough forgings. Could you therefore kindly send an outline of the rough crank webs so that we can look into this matter. We should also be interested to know if there are many forgings available for the application of this intermediate scheme. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
