48940 Hotel de France, Chateauroux, Indre. France. GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}I/Crn.4.7.25. To: "Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}" From: G.W.Hancock. Re Chassis 93 NK. Condition under which temperatures are given on report for the 3rd inst. Three miles level stretch, with wind behind. Against the wind, water temp. was 77°C. Oil pressures at given temperatures : - 60°C. 25 lbs. 70°C. 20 lbs. 77°C. 17 lbs. Tests taken at speeds of between 40 & 50 m.p.h. Re our daily report of engine tightening up on the morning's run, we dismantled filter, but could find no trace of any metal either in sump or on the filter. The engine being perfectly free, we decided to continue running. No. 5 piston knock, as reported, has been on sometime whist engine was cold, but disappeared when engine warmed up. It has now got worse, and can be heard after engine is hot. Re oil consumption, apparently the piston rings are not now functioning as they did at first, as our oil consumption is quickly becoming poor again. These rings have now run approximately 4,000 miles. G.W.Hancock. | ||
