STANDARDISATION of CHASSIS PARTS. Description of Parts. slipper Modification to clutch for Starter Motor Drive. Origin. The present clutch is unsatisfactory, it either slips excessively or seizes up. Experimental Test Report. The present clutch as arranged on the starter drive is faulty, there have been several cases of it slipping so that the starter would not turn the engine. There has been one case of the shaft breaking due to the clutch seizing up. Signature of Exp. Dept. that above is correct. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Hives. Road Test Report. One clutch has been tested under all conditions on a car. We find that with the friction adjusted so that 450 lbs. pull is necessary on the chain before it slips gives the best results.
