20/25 Engine - Front Tie Rod.

We have your memo. Br.1/S.6.2.36, and Hd{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy}/WT.15/MW.4.2.36, and also a tie rod sent to us by Hd.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy} for examination.

We should like to have information on whether any clutch jaggers have been cured merely by fitting a new tie rod without any attention whatever to the clutch itself, and if this is so, what slack has been found in the parts that have been changed. We should also like to know whether you have cured any complaints by relining the clutch, and have not found it necessary to remove the slack in the tie rod. If you could give us this information concerning several chassis we should be in a better position to say to what extent a very small amount of slack in the tie rod is detrimental to smooth clutch take-up.

In the meantime we have asked the designers for a tie rod to replace the existing one and made on the lines of the Ph.III cross steering tube ball ends, in which slack cannot develop in spite of wear.
