45840 To Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} and-Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} re Failure on 21-G-IV. Referring to the failure of the drilled stud on the wheelcase, which allowed the release oil to escape, this is a standard piece E.65883 made in silver bronze. We have arranged with BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} to alter the material to steel and obtain the necessary finish by plating. With regard to the failure of the dynamo charge, we have investigated the dimensions specified for the brushes and brush holders, and the clearance allowed should be ample. We are however enquiring to find out if the brush wear has been excessive with the changes to the electrical system on this car, with a view to determining whether this may be the cause.
