-2- Re. the fading away of the engine after long sustained runs, maximum speed. I understood that this had been cleared up in Roberts' report of 2.7.32., where he reported that since raising the petrol pipe from the frame, inside the engine bonnet, i.e. from the filter to the pump, the car had been driven long distances at maximum speed without any sign of fading away. It has since been thoroughly tried out, speeds of over 90 m.p.h., speedometer reading, been obtained, without any sign of fading away. RE. MILEAGE. It was understood that 10,000 miles had to be run. The car should have completed 9,000 miles before the end of the month, and be ready to hand over to Mr Northey for his trip. The papers should be in order as they were got out in the first place so as to enable visits to other countries. He will, I take it, have money to pay for the entrance and road licence. If he goes into Austria, he must declare what money he has on his person, and have it stated in his passport, otherwise he is liable to lose it when coming out. RE. THE REAR AXLE. We are losing oil to the extent of 1 pint per 500 miles, out of the rear axle. We had an oil thrower fitted to the O.S. whilst the car was at the Works to stop this leak, but it is very much worse now than previously. It is quite probable that a slight inaccuracy of fitting the thrower is making it rub. We propose before letting F.N. have the car to run up to Paris and have it dismantled to see whether anything can be done. Will you please state your views re. this. W.H.Hancock. G.W.H. | ||
