To E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to Hdy.{William Hardy} XIID Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Smth.30/KW.23.6.36. Phantom III Clutch. We think that some provision should be made for getting rid of the Ferodo dust from the Ph.III clutch. We suggest milling 3 slots in the outer rim of the cover, between the stud bosses, and drilling 3 small holes near the centre of the cover so as to encourage air circulation. Borg & Beck have a similar arrangement on their clutch. Using "No.6" material, the rate of wear of the facings appears to be very much less than with the old type of moulded material, but one would expect that the amount of dust collected between successive dismantlings would be the same. We find that, with the moulded material, the dust tended to stick on to the inside of the cover, and not to be centrifuged out. It might be an advantage to give the inside of the cover a smooth finish by varnishing or some such treatment. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Smth. | ||
