X4219 JACK PADS. The pads formed on the front axle forging for the purpose of jacking up the car are not in the right position. When the tyre is deflated the base of the jack fouls the tyres. There does not appear to be any necessity of forming jack pads on the front axle because the height under the front axle is approximately the same height as under the rear springs. The height under the rear springs will vary according to the thickness of the rear springs; this will not be very much. We recommend the jack pads are deleted on the front axle but provision should be made for a jack pad on the rear axle which will be approx: the same height as ground level to underneath the front axle. We think it will be awkward to have to adjust the jack between the spring clips under the rear. At present there is a bolt head which prevents the jack being put in this position. Brake Drums. The brake drums on the car have scored up badly. The drums we are using at present are in M.S. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} has instructed some more made from material with higher carbon. Induction and Exhaust Pipes. Apart from the trouble we have had with the induction and exhaust pipes cracking due to expansion, we are also having considerable trouble with the castings being porous. This occurred on the cast iron and malleable pipes. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
