Regarding your latest reports of
56 coils and 28 slots being superior to 58 coils and 29 slots,
while I agree with this I should like you to consider as
to whether the 57 coils (or 55 coils as the case may be) could
not be put in 57 grooves, because it may be possible to make
even a machine of still better performance, with larger
number of narrower slots.

At Royce Ltd. we have always carried
this as far as has been found practical, and we doubt if it
would be practical to use single coils per slot on the car
dynamo.

The stamping of plates has been so much
improved that what may have been considered impractical some
years ago may now be found possible. It will be remembered
that the plates which are grooved before they are built up
do not require any insulation between the plates other than
the natural scale on the sheet steel, or at most a coat of
varnish.
