ROLLS-ROYCE OF AMERICA, INC. SPRINGFIELD, MASS. X634 Oy1-E-111326 November 13th, 1926. Mr. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} W. Hives, Rolls-Royce, Ltd., Derby, England. Dear Mr. Hives: Re Crankshaft Vibrations Many thanks for the splendid reports of September last on torsional vibrations. Will you run some tests with Mobiloil A in the engine and tell us whether you do not find that a bench friction-setting of 170-180 lbs. ins. on the slipper is best for eliminating vibrations when this oil is used? We have found this to be so on both the Silver Ghost and Phantom engines, (but only by "trial and error" methods on the road). Yours very truly, Maurice Olley MO/E | ||
