4094 325 To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from HDY.{William Hardy} c. Mr. A.{Mr Adams} H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Day, M.H.C. HDY.{William Hardy}1/HP.16.7.34. GRY{Shadwell Grylls} SpectreCodename for Phantom III Gearbox. On our recent designs we have used S.M. clutch cones of less width than formerly to save weight and cost, but it now appears from experience with these that they are not as efficient as the wider cones hitherto used. We should, therefore, like cones of increased width fitted to the SpectreCodename for Phantom III, as we show on N. Sch.herewith (N.Sch.4137). There is no room to increase the width of the top gear cones but we think that this will not be of importance as this gear requires much less torque for synchronisation than the others. It is, in our opinion, essential that the first box should have these wider cones. HDY.{William Hardy} | ||
