make one of the new axles in the Experimental Shop. He. points out that the cost would not be great, perhaps £500 to £700, and that the information regarding the new brakes would be valuable to us on the standard car. With this axle we can convince Col. Hutchinson and set any doubts at rest in the minds of the India Office. It would be good policy towards the Government as indicating our willingness to tackle the Armoured Car problem. We should have found out things about the axle which it would be useful to know before it came into the Government limelight.

One interesting point that came out is that the Government are going to order 1000 air-cooled cars for India costing not more than £300 each and are now engaged in testing all makes in order to select about six makes for final test (They favour - Rover, B.S.A. and A.B.C.) This is an indication of the gradual mechanicalisation of the army. If small cars and Armoured Cars are needed, intermediate sized cars will also be required.
