Rolls Royce Limited, DERBY. 29th November 1938. Dear Sirs, For the attention of Mr. Childs Experimental Department. In answer to your letter of the 25th inst., your Reference Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/RC{R. Childs}4/JH. we thank you for the test figures attached to your letter in connection with readings taken of the headlamp terminals on a Bentley car fitted with a Lucas Harness. We shall study these and communicate with you later on the subject. Regarding the Regulator Unit and your statement that you are "completely mystified by what appears to us to be this sudden talk of a 6/1 ratio". We respectfully submit that we are equally surprised at your statement considering that all the L.R.7 Regulators we have supplied to you from the beginning of 1938 have incorporated this 6/1 swamp ratio, and we would also inform you that this swamp ratio was introduced in order to meet your own specification regarding the rise in setting from cold to warm conditions. We would add that our standard ratio is 2-1, we have never actually used a 3-1 ratio. We agree, however, that this 3-1 ratio has been referred to in previous correspondence, and we should have taken steps to rectify the error immediately but we quite thought you were aware of the 6/1 ratio position. We trust that the above explanation will have cleared the situation to your satisfaction. Yours faithfully, JOSEPH LUCAS LIMITED. Technical Sales Department. | ||
