PARALLEL AIR AND STEEL SPRINGS. 30.7.14.

DASHPOTS.

Some form of dashpot is necessary in connection with the automatic valves.

Since there will be oil in circulation it is worth while to use this if possible.

Unless we have knowledge of the behaviour of oil at varying temperatures under high pressure it would be worth while to repeat for our lubricating oil the measurements of viscosity which Mr Haldenby made for glycerine (Works note 22.5.14)

If it is possible to cool the oil for one of the tests in a bath of salt and ice the information so obtained would be valuable.
