(407) URGENT. SECRET. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. Roy.{Sir Henry Royce} c. Sft.{Mr Swift} "PEREGRINE". EWT.1/GR.{George Ratcliffe}9.1.33. I saw Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} on Saturday morning, and explained to him what Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} was thinking relative to the above. The particulars given to me by Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} were reported to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} appeared to be optimistic, but although I put the position before Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} as stated to me by Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} on Saturday morning, Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} is still pessimistic, and is afraid that the Works will be behind from Works to Test with the first chassis. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} promised the Board that this should be ready in March or April, and he dislikes making promises which he is unable to fulfil. By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} has only released about 20%, and Roy.{Sir Henry Royce} has only ordered about 16% of the 200 sets of material authorised by Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Nov. 29th last; in consequence Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} would like the four officials above-mentioned to meet, and, if possible, let Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} have a report to-day as to their views. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} still thinks we shall be behind with the first chassis from Works to test at least 3 to 4 months - nearer 4 months than 3. EWT. | ||
