| It will be evident that the amount by which the valve is lifted depends on the rate of oil leakage past the piston and the speed of the engine, in other words on the duration of the period of lift. Consequently the amount of lift will increase with the camshaft speed and this appears from the above figures. At speeds below 30 r.p.m. the lift is considerably less than shown above. Owing to the"pumping" action of the adjuster there can be no possibility of the valve not closing. The range of automatic adjustment of the adjuster is 3/16" (three sixteenths of an inch). There is however no limit to this range of adjustment provided there is no restriction on the length of the adjuster.
