x 1278 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.7/MH.{M. Huckerby} The Harrison Radiator Corporation, Lockport, New York, U.S.A. 3rd. November 1937. For the attention of Mr. S.P.Saunders. Dear Mr. Saunders, Thank you for your letter of Oct. 19th. Mr. Hart has now sent us a quotation for your hydrogen brazed coolers. Whether we shall eventually use same or not seems somewhat uncertain, since we are endeavouring at the moment to dispense with this unit altogether. Your information re fan belts and drives etc. has arrived very opportunely, as we have a project on hand at the moment to use a triangulated belt drive for fan water-pump and dynamo. In connection with this we are anxious of course, to obtain the maximum of durability and reliability from the driving belt. On this account I yesterday cabled you for particulars of the automatic belt tensioning device mentioned in your letter. Anything that you can tell us about this arrangement will be very useful. Also I would like to know whether you have any particulars of variable pitch or variable speed fans, or whether you could put us in touch with anyone dealing with this subject. Our idea of course, is to reduce the fan horsepower at maximum speeds in order to increase the belt life. In connection with the question of reliability of fan-cum-water pump belt drives, we would like to know whether the average American car can be driven home any distance if its water pump is out of action.
