X457 To C.J. from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}3/LG13.7.25. STEERING GEAR. X457 +8430 With reference to the attached correspondence in connection with the above. The balance of the road wheels is a most important factor in connection with high speed steering wobbles. In our opinion, which is confirmed by the Production Test Dept. 80% of the troubles with high speed steering wobbles would disappear with perfectly balanced wheels. When the wheels are out-of-balance, there is always a periodic force trying vto build up wobbles, when the wheels are perfectly in balance, the wobble can only be built up by striking the right sequence of bumps on the road surface. The chances of this occurring are remote. Attached is a note ref. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}8/LG22.6.25. which we recommend should be circulated to our Officials and Depots.
