Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. to DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} PHANTOM II REVISED TYPE LUGGAGE CARRIER. Before we put in hand a lot of new dies for a luggage grid that could be used with no wheel at the rear, I think we ought to give full consideration to the American type of luggage grid. There is no doubt their cars at the back look infinitely neater and more finished than ours. They are now fitting as standard a guard over the rear petrol tank, and the back part of the car looks very well finished. Their folding type luggage grid is quite inobtrusive. I see no reason why our customers should demand any different means of carrying luggage than they do in U.S.A. It is years now since I saw a Rolls-Royce car on the road with luggage carried except by means of a proper luggage trunk. It is possible that at T.W. the grid may be used to carry potatoes, which of course cannot be done with the U.S.A. type. I still think that we are carrying too much ironmongery at the back of our cars. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
