.TESTS IN THE SAND.

LONG VALLEY, ALDERSHOT.

The vehicle has a load of 3 tons 2 cwts. and will proceed to the front and take part in this test. The vehicles will be loaded as for service in India, with filled petrol tanks and radiator filled with water. This sand has been specially got from the country and approximates very closely to the country in which the cars may have to work. The ground consists of alternate patches of hard gravelly sand and soft sand.

1. The vehicles will start at the bottom of the hill where the road from the Bridge into the Long Valley finishes. They will start at timed intervals after the radiator temperature has been taken and will proceed six times round the measured two miles course, round the flagstaff at the end of Long Valley and back across the valley to the starting place. The length of this course is approximately 12.6 miles and must be completed within 45 minutes.

2. The vehicles will then proceed direct to the soft sand under Long Doone Hill. This is about 3" to 6" deep on the average, and they will be required to do six continuous figures of 8 without a stop. This is to test the strength of the steering connections and the cooling capacity of the radiator when the chassis is working under full load on first speed.

3. At the conclusion of the figures of 8 the radiator temperature will be taken, and must not exceed 100° C. above that of the atmosphere.
