X.3398 - PETO & RADFORD BATTERIES. x664

The two more recently received Peto & Radford batteries ( of four altogether) are both still giving good service on the road.

The first received of these two, No.14 on our table of performances, is a 97¾ lbs. battery with cells in ebonite containers, rated ampere-hours 60. This is a thick plate battery and therefore did not show up very well on low rate or on high rate discharge capacity tests on the bench. Subsequent to the tests, however, it gave good service on miscellaneous- work for a time, and in January last it was handed over to Mr. Northey in a box to be put on his open trials car. He has once or twice reported that this battery is doing very well, not making its presence felt in any objectionable way. Mr. Northey referred to this battery at the Staff Conference on Tuesday last, mentioning the fact that their Director, Mr.G.R.N.Minchin, was an enthusiastic Rolls-Royce owner.

The other battery, No.40 on our table, is one of their high rate discharge type, of weight 107¼ lbs., rated ampere-hour capacity 60. This naturally showed up better on our high rate discharge tests on the bench, also on the low rate discharge capacity tests. This battery
