RE - VALVE GEAR. With reference to the valve gear on our aero and other engines, it would be advisable in testing a new type of engine to purposely adjust the valves so as to give quite a considerable amount of back lash in the tappets, so that the stress on the valve motion is considerably in excess of anything it will get in practice. This should be accompanied by an engine revolution higher than will be used in practice. F.H.R. | ||
