RE - VALVE GEAR. With reference to the valve gear on our aero and other engines, it would be advisable in testing a new type of engine to purposely adjust the valves so as to give quite a considerable amount of back lash in the tappets, so that the stress on the valve motion is considerably in excess of anything it will get in practice.
