Dear Sirs, We thank you for your letter of the 11th. August. We note that you would like to have our observations on your remarks. We presume that you have had a complete copy of our reply to the Woodford Motor Company, in case this is not so we enclose the letter in question. Any observations we make about Discol are from our own practical experience. We are entirely unbiased. (1) Our remarks re. the petrol pump diaphragm were made as a result of the tests we conducted on a Bentley car twleve months ago. We had a petrol pump failure which was attributed to the fuel used, after 8,000 miles. (2) We are not interested in the C.F.R. method of knock rating. The figure of merit we use is obtained on our own engines. We are interested to note that 80% of the competitors in the Ulster T.T. Race have nominated Cleveland Discol because we have proved to our satisfaction that at high compression ratios Ethyl is definitely superior. If this were not so, Mr. Hall would be using Cleveland Discol. (3) We say that to get the best results it is necessary to alter the jet adjustment on the Bentley car.
