-6- SR/HBR.J/RF.5.7.38. No.1700. A.C.Bypass oil filter. The oil was getting dirty after 3,700 miles. At 5,800 miles the filter was found to be cracked and leaking, and a new unit was fitted. This cleaned the oil and maintained it in good condition for 10,000 miles. At 12,000 miles after fitting the new unit cracks and leaks again developed, and the oil was beginning to get dirty again. A second replacement filter was then fitted, which showed signs of flogging in the clip after 3,000 miles. The cracks were caused by the securing clip digging in to the casing. A modification has been called for. Oil Filler LCF.EE.1645. The breather pipe fractured during the running and was lost on the road. A support clip may be required. R+M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} LCF.EE.1585. 10D.243 Five bladed fan. This was quiet and effective in action. A new "Ferogrip" fan belt fitted during the mileage ran 14,000 miles. It required no adjustment, and was superior to previous belts tried. The fan was subsequently damaged owing to the failure of a non-standard experimental part on the engine mounting. No.1926. Exhaust manifold. Both branches of the casting distorted, a flange was cracked and two studs broken off.. This trouble also occurred on the last test, and requires design attention. | ||
