Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} From Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} LETTER [text is struck through] X5340 Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/MJ.24.1.30. Both on the 20 HP. and Phantom ll we have a safety stop arranged so that if a rear spring breaks no damage can occur. X7340 We consider the risk of the propeller shaft breaking is no more than the risk of steering parts failing. We have taken all possible precautions by over-load test and can suggest no more. The failures on the Silver Ghost were when we used a counter-shaft foot brake and we know from actual tests that if this brake was abused the propeller shaft could be damaged.
