EFC. {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} from Wd. {Mr Wood / Mr Whitehead} c. to By. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} [text crossed out] X8796 Wd {Mr Wood / Mr Whitehead} 3/NJ9.3.25. EO.6 Watford Magneto No.73972. I confirm mine Wd {Mr Wood / Mr Whitehead} /P3.3.25. We are now in receipt of a letter from North & Sons Ltd. dated 6th inst. as follows:- "In further reply to your letter, we beg to say 'that the amount of noise arising from the sleeve of 'this magneto was more marked than usual and for some 'reason which we have not been able to discover the 'tone was distinctly different to and therefore more 'noticeable than that usually produced. "Our testers report that only about three magnetos 'have been tested in our "quiet room" in which the noise 'has been similar to that made by this magneto. "Although no peculiarity in the sleeve itself could 'be detected by examination and measurement, no adjust- 'ment with regard to the tension on the sleeve had any 'effect, but when a new sleeve was fitted the noise was 'practically eliminated. "We shall be pleased to see Mr.Whitehead at any time 'when he comes to London if he wishes to discuss this 'matter further, but in view of the fact that the noise 'in this magneto was exceptional and has been overcome 'by the fitting of a new sleeve we do not think any 'further modification will be found necessary. "The magneto was returned to you by passenger train 'yesterday and we trust that on retesting it you will 'be satisfied that it is as quiet as it is possible to 'make it. I have written North & Sons acknowledging receipt of their letter and informing them that upon receipt of the magneto, we will test same and let them have a report. [Handwritten text] The Magneto will be handed to Wd. {Mr Wood / Mr Whitehead} [signature] you (E.F.C.) on arrival - I shall be glad to have your report. | ||
