GOSHAWK 11. X4219

We have run Goshawk 11. chassis about 150 miles. During this last run the chassis was fitted with the original Mulliner open-touring body, windscreen and undershield, so that one was able to judge the complete car much better. We had also changed the engine unit since we ran the car a week ago. During this last run we ran with the original Goshawk 11. engine which has completed about 90 hours running on the Test Bench. This gave us an engine which was properly run-in and free. The first impression of the car was that it was noisy. The chief noise was from the breathing of the engine, exhaust and suction noises. The other noises were from the continuous gears in the gear box and rear axle. The car was particularly free from any mechanical noises.

In order to overcome the exhaust noises, we are fitting the silencer and as much of the exhaust system as possible from Goshawk 1. car because that was particularly good for absence of exhaust noise.

In order to reduce the suction noises, we are getting rid of all the sharp edges which exist in the carburetter, but we shall always be left with the noise caused by the little Pilot Jet when the engine is running dead-slow.

We are also pushing ahead with another rear axle which will be fitted with gears which have been run-in on the F.G.
