Test report on 850 lbs. capacity shear pins being driven over a kerb at various speeds.

Test 4. Shear pins of 850 lbs. capacity.

These were driven over the 6 1/2" kerb at 30 m.p.h. and 33 m.p.h. and apparently remained intact. At 35 m.p.h. both offside tyres were punctured so the tests were discontinued. It was later found that one pin was partially sheared.

From the above results we conclude that in practice the load on the steering gear due to normal rough treatment will not exceed 1 1/2 times the maximum parking load.
