Messrs. North & Sons. -2- Contd. ******************* I am aware that this machine has not yet passed a type test, but I think this has been largely delayed because of it waiting for a satisfactory report from the aero engine builders. I understand that it is the most satisfactory English machine which is available." In view of the above, we assume that you are now agreeable to our returning those of these magnetos which are our own property. There are four such, their Nos. being 83119/20 (Starboard and Port) and 83132/3 (Port and Starboard), and these we propose to return to you. Before actually doing so, however, we would like to have your confirmation as I think you will remember that the reason we have not done this previously is that you have informed us that these magnetos would be out-of-date and that you would be first preparing some newer ones which would more nearly satisfy the Air Ministry requirements (See your letter MEN/HC6. of April 5th. As stated by Mr. Royce, we are anxious to progress and obtain magnetos for our aero engines which will satisfactorily run up ultimately to an engine speed of 3000 or perhaps even more, i.e. a magneto speed of 4500 or even 4800 r.p.m. We are collecting the four magnetos together, but will await your answer before despatching same. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
